Donna Shea, M.A.
Career Synopsis

Ms. Shea obtained her Bachelor
of Vocational Education degree in June 1999 and her Master of
Vocational Education degree in June 2000 at California State
University, San Bernardino. She was honored as Student of the
Year for academic excellence in both the Bachelor and Masters
programs. Ms. Shea currently enjoys the privilege of teaching
in Bachelor of Career and Technical Education (BCTS) degree program for CSUSB. As the
BACTS
Program Coordinator for the Supervision and Coordination Credential,
BACTS Degree, and MS in STEM Ed. Technology Concentration Degree, she finds
advising scholars her most rewarding experience.
Ms. Shea served on the Ad Hoc committee for the revision of the Master
in Education degree and the State-wide committee for Allied Health
Teaching Credential Resource Development. She currently serves
on the College of Education Curriculum Committee, the
University Grievance Committee, and Technical Education Advisory Board.
She also serves on the CSU CTE Advisory Board, the CTC BIR and IPR
Boards, and several advisory boards for other institutions. She
developed on-line courses and electronic textbooks for all of her
classes at CSUSB. She won a Technology Development Grant to
convert the Level 3 Supervision and Coordination Designated Subjects
Credential courses from a traditional presentation to an on-line curricula
format.
The Level 3 ECTS 508/508/510 series on-line was well received and demonstrates
growth. She is also the recipient of the OODL Award for
Outstanding On-line and Distributive Learning Curriculum awarded by
the Office of On-line Learning and Distributive Learning as CSUSB.
Ms. Shea served on staff with
Skadron College, a Corinthian School, from 1988 to 2000. During
her tenure at Skadron she instructed the Medical Assisting course for
ten years and served as the Allied Health Externship Coordinator from
March 1998 to May of 1999. Ms. Shea was the campus on-call
substitute for both the Business and Allied Health departments through
2001. While Skadron was under National Education Center
management, she was contracted to the corporate office as a Subject
Expert/Curriculum Developer. She developed competency based
programs for two Limited License Radiology programs, a CNA program,
and an LVN/LPN program all of which were approved by their respective
states. She assisted in revising the Medical Assisting and Medical
Office Management programs. Ms. Shea has received the Instructor
of the Year, Instructor Hall of Fame, We Care, Lowest Attrition,
Instructor of the Quarter (3), and Parthenon awards. She was
nominated to President's Club during her first quarter at Skadron.
Ms. Shea taught Allied Health and Business classes as a
substitute for Bryman Colleges and United Education Institutes through
2008, where
she continues to conduct staff development in-service training.
Ms. Shea co-authored two
publications for Delmar Publishers in Albany, NY. Medical
Assisting: Clinical Skills Manual and Telephone Triage
Card Deck. Both texts emphasize critical thinking and
follow the AAMA DACUM. She was a content expert for the first
and second
editions of Delmar's Medical Assisting Video Series:
Administrative and Clinical Procedures. Ms. Shea continues
to serve as a reviewer of texts by other authors and curriculum
consultant for on-line course development at CSUSB and other
institutions.
In addition to CSUSB, Ms.
Shea's formal education includes a Limited Radiology License
Certificate from Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut), Medical Assisting
Diploma from Southland College (Montebello) and an Associate of
Science Degree from Citrus College (Azusa). She is a
lifetime member of Phi Kappa Phi, lifetime member of the Golden Key
International Honour Society, and Co-trustee for the Gamma Nu
Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau Honor Society. Her long term goal is to develop
on-line course curriculum that accommodates all learning styles and share the values and ethics she has acquired from the CSUSB
Vocational Education programs with other vocational instructors.
Ms. Shea's previous positions
include: Medical Assistant and Radiology Technician (Louis
Brenner, M.D., Montclair), Office Manager, Physical Therapy Aid and
Phlebotomist (Jeri P. Barnes, D.C., Ontario), Medical Assistant,
X-ray/Lab Technician (Falk-Altimirano Clinic, El Monte) and Charge
Supervisor (Arrow Convalescent Hospital, Covina). She especially
enjoyed applying her Citrus College course work in a temporary
position as Engineering Aid with TRW where she worked on the Space
Shuttle and MX programs.
Ms. Shea is an active Scouter
with the Old Baldy, California Inland Empire, and San Gabriel Valley Councils of
the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since 2001 she serves an
instructor for the High Adventure Teams (HAT) providing adult leader
training in high adventure activities such as aquatics, rock climbing,
backpacking, horseback riding and American Red Cross CPR, First Aid,
and Wilderness First Aid. In 2002 She attended National
Camp School becoming a Rock Climbing Director and was appointed the
High Adventure Director for Holcomb Valley Scout Ranch.
Throughout the year she takes numerous troops on rock climbing outings
and assists in training climbing instructors from multiple councils.
She also utilizes her teaching and outdoor skills as a member of the
Wrightwood/Phelan Search and Rescue team.
Ms. Shea's past community
service and professional activities include: CPR
instructor - American Heart Association, tutor for San Bernardino
County Library Literacy program and community theater throughout
Southern California. She served on the Medical Advisory
Committee for The Artemis Project, a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to establishing a private-enterprise mining venture on the
lunar surface. Present and past professional affiliations
include AAMA, CMAA, AMT, NAHP, ASPT, CSRT, CTA, CSRT, ACSD and
ACTE.
During her copious time off,
Ms. Shea enjoys rock and ice climbing, winter and summer backpacking, ocean and white
water kayaking, skiing and snowboarding, scuba diving, horse training
and surfing. She also taught belly dance classes at the local gym
where she trains. She is an avid reader and life long learner.
