(College of Education Conceptual Framework, 2000) |
Supervised field work in supervision and coordination of career and technical programs. Students will contract to perform administrative tasks related to site-based instructional programs. Co requisites: EVOC 508 and 509. (4 units)
The EVOC 508/509/510 series is designed to prepare Designated Subjects teachers for an administrative position in their districts. Upon successful completion scholars will be eligible to apply for a Supervision and Coordination Career and Technical Credential. These courses are being offered exclusively on-line. All three courses must be taken concurrently during the same quarter. Administrators have a heavy workload with many deadlines. This series of courses is homework intensive. Scholars prepared to invest the time and energy necessary to successfully complete the coursework make excellent administrative candidates. Late assignments will not be tolerated, although remediation will be available at the instructor's discretion.
The field work component in the Supervision and Coordination Program provides an opportunity for scholars to gain valuable experience and network with people directly involved with supervision/coordination of programs. The field work project also allows scholars to apply the knowledge they have acquired in EVOC courses.
On completion of this course given reading assignments, class discussions, examples and case studies scholars will:
Explore administrative projects required by Coordinators and Supervisors in Career and Technical Education
Consult with a district administrator to develop a forty (40) administrative work experience project
Submit a project proposal for suitable for Coordination and Supervision in Career and Technical Education
Develop a Work Experience Contract with a district administrator for an administrative work experience project
Generate a practical timeline for completing a forty (40) hour administrative work experience project by the end of the quarter
Function in the role of a supervisor to facilitate the completion of a forty (40) hour administrative work experience project by the end of the quarter
Work closely with an on-site administrator to ensure successful completion of the administrative work experience project by the end of the quarter

Write a grant proposal for a ROP course
The following is a brief description of the course assignments that satisfy the course objectives. Scholars should refer to the electronic textbook for the specific assignment objectives, assignment discussion, and examples, before beginning any assignment.
PI Scholar's Information and Memo of Intent
In this assignment scholars will provide the instructor with personal
contact and work information via e-mail. All information will remain
confidential and accessible to the instructor only. Scholars will also write a
Memo of Introduction to send to the class-at-large via e-mail. Networking and
joint projects are encouraged. This counts for EVOC 508, 509, and 510.
T&I - Current Trends and Issues in California Today
One assignment will remain open each quarter to address trends, issues,
questions, and concerns that arise during the quarter. Emphasis will be placed
on current events, political climate, and legislative issues both recent and
pending. Issues may be introduced by scholars or the instructor. These issues
will be addressed throughout the quarter via asynchronous class discussion
on-line. For example, what is your district doing to meet CLAD requirements for
CTE instructors? One discussion counts in serves for EVOC 508, 509, and
510.
WEP - Work Experience Proposal
Scholars will review the "Important Information" in the e-text and arrange a
meeting with an on-site administrator to discuss topics and projects suitable
for a forty (40) hour administrative work experience project. Submit an
administrative work experience proposal for one or more project topics to the
instructor for approval. Topics should provide the scholar with the
opportunity to function "in the role of supervisor" and benefit the district,
school site, or CTE program.
WET - Work Experience Timeline
Upon approval of their administrative work experience project, scholars
should work with their on-site supervisor to develop a realistic timeline for
completing the administrative work experience project by the end of the quarter.
The timeline should include tasks, arrangements, dates, resources, and
faculty/staff necessary to successfully complete the project.
WEC - Work Experience Contract
Scholars will develop a contract between the scholar and the on-site
supervisor that describes the nature and scope of the work experience project.
It should clearly outline the responsibilities of the scholar and the role of
the on-site administrator. Scholars will work with the on-site
administrator to generate a realist budget for completing the project. The
contract and budget must be signed by both the scholar and on-site administrator
then submitted to the instructor. The on-site administrator and scholar
should retain copies for their records.
PR - Progress Reports (2)
Scholars will submit two progress reports during the quarter according to
the calendar at the end of the syllabus. The progress reports should
indicate what has been accomplished, what needs to be accomplished, and how the
remaining work will be accomplished. It should indicate if the project is
following the timeline, and if it is not what will be done. Identify
problems or obstacles and how they were or will be addressed. Indicate the
effectiveness and helpfulness of the on-site supervisor.
AR - Administrative Resources
Throughout the project scholars should be networking with administrators,
faculty, and staff at the school site, in the district, and in the community.
They should be consulting various documents (traditional and on-line) and locate
community resources. Scholars should maintain a journal from which they
can develop a file of administrative resources helpful to a Coordinator or
Supervisor. Generate and submit a list of resources that includes, but is
not limited to, books, Web sites, community resources, and people in the
district, State, or community.
WER - Work Experience Report
Upon completion of the administrative work experience project, scholars will
write a report discussing their experience, perceptions and conclusions.
The report will include an evaluation of their experience and a self-evaluation
of their performance. They should address what work well, and how the
experience/project could be improved the next time. They will create a
Power Point presentation to present their project to the district, instructor,
and fellow scholars. The report and slide show should be appropriate for
presentation at a conference, community, or district event.
OAE - On-Site Administrator Evaluation
Upon completion of the administrative work experience project, scholars will
obtain a performance evaluation from their on-site administrator. The
evaluation should be an honest assessment of the project's outcome and scholar's
growth from the beginning to the end of the project. The on-site
administrator should conduct a performance review and both the administrator and
scholar should sign the evaluation. Scholar will submit the signed
evaluation to the instructor. The on-site administrator and scholar should
retain copies for their records.
FP - Final Project Grant Proposal
Scholars final will consist of researching and selecting a grant available
for an ROCP program then write a grant proposal. Emphasis will be placed on
components of grant writing, proprietary vs. discretionary grants, and
accountability. This project serves as the final for EVOC 508, 509, and 510.
