EVOC 505
Early Orientation for
Designated Subjects
Developed by:
Donna Shea
EVOC 505 will introduce scholars to skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for beginning Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers including teaching methods, learning styles, lesson plans, equity and diversity, legal/ethical issues, and CTE strategies. OSHA regulations for specific CTE industry sectors are covered. Strategies for special needs students and English learners are explored. Business and Industry partnerships are discussed.
This is a self-paced course, but scholars are expected to complete a minimum of two assignments each week. The recommended schedule is located in the course calendar at the bottom of the syllabus. The required reading books are available at the Coyote Bookstore, or they can be ordered from the Coyote Bookstore or Amazon on-line (recommended). Scholars MUST obtain both books during the first week of the course to ensure they have time to read the relevant chapters before the assignment is due. If scholars order the books on-line priority shipping is required. Teaching English Language Learners in Career and Technical Education Programs will also be used in EVOC 501, 518, 519, and 504.
Read all information presented in the e-text and the examples before beginning the assignments. All scholars are expected to read, refer to, and if necessary print a copy of the course syllabus. The course syllabus is a critical resource during this course. Scholars should e-mail the instructor for assistance when they have concerned or difficulty. Help is provided via e-mail and telephone conferences.
