In EVOC 335 scholars will collect documentation and prepare their Career and Technical Evaluation of Competency (CTEC) portfolio to submit the California State Board of Examiners to request credit toward their B.V.E. degree for previous work and teaching experience. They will explore requirements for the B.V.E. degree and prepare a degree plan to facilitate achieving that goal. Coursework will promote the development of a flexible and innovative approach to vocational education through readings and class discussions. All course requirements will be presented at the first scheduled class meeting so each scholar can identify expectations and applicable standards of performance. An e-mail account and access to the internet is required for this course.
To prepare for this course scholars should begin collecting unofficial transcripts for all institutions attended, letters of reference or recommendation, documentation of all workshops, seminars, in-service training by employers, conferences and conventions attended, professional journals received, advisory board minutes, curriculum, articles, books, research published, dates of employment with addresses, supervisor, and job duties for all employment and professional, occupational, and teaching organizations of membership.

for EVOC 435
PI Memo of Intent and Scholar's Confidential Personal Information

format. The memo will state the scholar's current registration status, the
option selected for completing EVOC 335, the grade the

the projected submission date for the Swan Bill Application.

the class-at-large.
SC Shopping for a Course
Scholars will contact two instructors who teach Upper Division Expository
Writing 306 (for any discipline) at CSUSB and interview those instructors following
the form provided. The scholars are shopping for a course in the same way
they would shop for a home, car, or employee. Scholars will complete the
interview form for both instructor's and submit it along with any
documents obtained, such as a course syllabus. The scholars submit their
assignment with a memo in which they describe their experience, impression, and
decision whether or not this they would take a class from one or both
instructors and why.
DP Bachelor in Career and Technical Education Degree Plan
Scholars will develop a degree plan outlining the requirements for a
Bachelor of Career and Technicall Education degree. The plan will include completed
coursework for which they have received or will receive credit from another
institution, courses previously completed at CSUSB, courses to be taken at
CSUSB, courses to be taken via concurrent registration and a projected schedule
for completing all coursework. All forms will be word processed prior to
submission.
BR Book Reviews and Discussion
Each scholar will obtain and read
Yes or No The Guide to Better Decisions and Who Moved My Cheese
both by Spencer Johnson. Scholars
will write a report for each addressing of the
relevancy of these books as they
pertains to vocational education. Emphasis will be placed on the need for
flexibility and innovation to meet the needs of adult learners.
FM Front Matter
Scholars will word process introductory and preparation for teaching forms
in their CTEC porfolio. They will collect documentation of
preparation for teaching which includes items such as teaching credentials,
transcripts of coursework, certificates, diplomas, and degrees of programs
completed in colleges or career and technical educations institutions.
EM Employment Matrix
Scholars will develop a matrix of all current and previous employers which
identifies their job functions applicable to work, supervisory and teaching
experience in the vocation listed on their designated subjects teaching
credential or application. This matrix will provide the foundation for developing the
CTEC portfolio and requisite documentation.
WE Work and Supervisory Experience Forms

transcripts for all post-secondary institutions attended. Scholars may
also include diplomas, certificates, and degrees earned.
DD Documentation Description
Scholars will describe and collect acceptable documentation for professional
development, work, and teaching experience to include in their
CTEC portfolio following the instructions provided for submission to the EVOC
faculty for review.
PC Portfolio Compilation
Scholars will word process and compile all forms and describe the documentation
they intend to obtain to document their life experience. All forms will be word processed
prior to submission and organized as directed in a professional manner.
Scholars will be given the opportunity to remediate any assignment that is completed and submitted on time but does not meet criteria or expected proficiency. The instructor will review the document and return it with suggestions. Scholars may then revise the assignment and resubmit it for full credit providing the assignment was turned in on time.
Scholars are encouraged to seek the instructor's guidance and suggestions prior to submitting any assignment, including the final project. All scholar's are expected to perform at a level of "B" or higher. For this course any grade less than a "B" is inadequate. My goal is for each scholar to achieve an "A" for the course.
Scholars are expected to turn in all assignments on or before the due date listed in the course schedule below. All assignments related to the CTEC portfolio and BCTS degree plan are required, however, if they are late full credit will not be received. Late work will significantly impact the scholar's grade. The final grade for EVOC 335 will be lowered one letter grade for every assignment turned in late. This means the fist late assignment lowers the grade to A-, the second to B+ and so on. It is critical that all work be turned in ON TIME.
An incomplete is at the instructor's discretion. I do NOT give incompletes. If you are unable to complete the work you should drop the course and complete all necessary paper work by the census date. No drops will be processes after the census date. You must either complete the work in a timely manner or you will fail the course. If you fail, you can re-enroll in a subsequent quarter and challenge the "F" to receive your most recent grade.
Grading Criteria
This course is unlike traditional courses. The major project, which also consists of the final, is a CTEC portfolio for submission to the EVOC facluty. It documents all work history during the scholars' professional life. For this reason the scholars' efforts, positive attitude, timeliness of assignments, and ability to follow verbal and written instructions have a direct bearing on their grade. The following is a general grading scale to serve as a guideline for scholars' reference. Grades can be requested from the instructor at any time during the course. Remember, late work will reduce the final grade as indicated above as well as the individual assignment grade.

ATTENDANCE
All scholars must attend the first class on the San Bernardino campus. Scholars are expected to attend all scheduled classes unless the distance learning option is selected and approved by the instructor. Failure to attend all regularly scheduled classes will directly impact the scholar's success in EVOC 335. The loss of class time is a problem, especially for scholar's understanding of the CTEC portfolio and B.V.E degree plan. When absent, most scholars have difficulty completing these documents successfully. It is each scholar's responsibility to arrange to make up time/course work missed. In the case of extenuating circumstances, the instructor will make every effort to ensure that the educational experience of the scholars is not jeopardize.
ACADEMIC HONESTY
California State University, San Bernardino has a zero tolerance for plagiarism and academic dishonesty. A scholar who commits an act of dishonesty will receive a failing grade and be reported to university officials. Scholars do not cheat, use another scholars work in place of their own, or knowingly assist another to do so. Also, unauthorized access to or changing grades on an assignment or examination is unacceptable. The instructor reserves the right to submit work to TurnItIn.com.
